UAE to Introduce Artificial Intelligence in School Curricula from Kindergarten to Grade 12

In a landmark move to future-proof its education system, the United Arab Emirates has announced the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a core subject across all public schools—starting from the 2025–2026 academic year. The initiative will span every grade level, from kindergarten through grade 12, making the UAE one of the first countries globally to embed AI comprehensively into its national curriculum.

The UAE Ministry of Education emphasized that the decision aligns with the country’s strategic vision to reinforce its global leadership in AI and digital transformation. The new curriculum is designed to equip students with future-ready skills and empower them to engage meaningfully with emerging technologies—ultimately nurturing a generation capable of developing smart, ethical, and innovative solutions.

The curriculum is built around seven core pillars: data and algorithms, software applications, ethical awareness in AI, real-world applications, AI-driven innovation and project design, AI policy, and social engagement. These modules have been carefully tailored to be age-appropriate and will be integrated into existing school timetables—without extending classroom hours. Teachers will be supported with comprehensive resources, including lesson plans, activity templates, and adaptable tools to fit various learning environments.

Her Excellency Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, Minister of Education, described the initiative as a practical step toward realizing the country’s forward-looking vision. “Our goal is to prepare a generation that understands the ethical use of technology and can create innovative solutions using national tools—opening wide opportunities in both education and employment,” she said.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Education and Human Resources Council, called the move a “strategic milestone” that reflects the UAE’s commitment to empowering future generations with the tools to thrive in a tech-driven world. Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice Chairperson of the Council, further emphasized, “As AI becomes the language of the future, introducing it in schools is a gateway to shaping the future itself.”

This initiative—one of the UAE’s most significant national education reforms—has been launched in collaboration with leading local institutions such as the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence and the Emirates College for Advanced Education. These partnerships aim to accelerate the integration of cutting-edge technologies into learning environments.

The UAE’s decision reflects a growing global recognition of AI’s transformative role in education and workforce development, positioning the nation as always, at the forefront of tech-driven learning reform.
