Smart Dubai yesterday announced the three winners of their second Global Blockchain Challenge. Awards totaling $45,000 were given out. Sun Exchange took first place. It is a startup that allows anyone who owns solar cells to lease them anywhere in the world and making money. Sun Exchange arranges monthly lease rentals collection and distribution.
Smart Dubai yesterday announced the three winners of their second Global Blockchain Challenge. Awards totaling $45,000 were given out. Sun Exchange took first place. It is a startup that allows anyone who owns solar cells to lease them anywhere in the world and making money. Sun Exchange arranges monthly lease rentals collection and distribution. Abraham Cambridge, Founder and CEO received $20,000 for coming in First place.
Second place winner was Educhain which allows the issuing and authentication of credentials digitally. Mark Balovnev, Co Founder received a check for $15,000.
As for third place it went to EverLedger, which is using Blockchain to create a digital ledger for diamonds and extended it to build an anti counterfeit ledger for other goods. Scott Austin, enterprise Partnerships and Investment Manager received a check for $10,000.
Hamsa Warfa from BanQu, Fadwa Mohanna from miCity and Hasan kurtulus from Copyrobo also got special recognition due to their promising ideas.
Winning the money is not the only thing that will come out of this global Blockchain challenge. The three startups will now have an opportunity to pitch and pilot their ideas here in Dubai with either governmental or private businesses. This is part of Dubai’s strategy to be the first blockchain powered city by 2020.
More than 21 startups from across 15 countries participated in this challenge. Dr. Aisha Bin Bishir congratulated the winners saying, “The Dubai Blockchain Challenge has engaged with the most innovative start-ups across the globe, to push the boundaries of what is possible when we embrace emerging technologies to improve lives. Those who participated in the Dubai Blockchain Challenge are contributing their valuable experience to achieving the vision of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to make Dubai the happiest city on earth,".
Wesam Lootah CEO of Smart Dubai Government Establishment stated, “"The Blockchain Challenge marks another important milestone for our Dubai Blockchain Strategy, which seeks to execute the leadership’s vision to make Dubai the first city in the world to conduct all of its government transactions using blockchain technology, and to upgrade government services and ensure customer satisfaction."
