Blockchain technology has found a new home in the Bahamas, as the government recently unveiled its intention to host hundreds of industry leaders, venture capitalists, block signers and MINERS at the inaugural Bahamas Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Conference (BBCC) planned for June 20-22 in Freeport, Grand Bahama.
Blockchain and the Internet of Things (IoT) are both technologies which have big promises to keep, and the Bahamas is keen to capitalize on its proximity to the U.S. mainland, robust offshore banking sector and sovereign status as an independent country. Both blockchain and IoT are already being widely and enthusiastically adopted by industry and the public sector alike, and Bahamian and international experts both will be on hand to underscore the country’s maturity in the space.
Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) Senator Kwasi Thompson joined members of government and stakeholders from the Grand Bahama Port Authority and the GB Business Community to reveal its new digital strategy which will feature the use of blockchain and cryptocurrency technology as an economic driver – a move which falls in line with the Government’s overall plans for a digital revolution.

Grand Bahama Island will serve as the backdrop for the first ever Bahamas Blockchain & Cryptocurrency conference which the government anticipates will attract over 1,000 international investors, entrepreneurs, wealth management executives, Bahamas Government officials, and business leaders who will travel to network in paradise and gain a better insight into the regulatory framework that The Bahamas has established for cryptocurrencies, ICOs and exchanges. as well as to see the selected “40 Stars of Technology” in the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency arena present their innovative investment opportunities.
