Ethereum’s latest network upgrade, Fusaka, is ready for deployment, after successfully going live on its final testnet, Hoodi, on Tuesday. This milestone follows earlier successful deployments on the Holesky and Sepolia testnets, and signals that the update is on track for Ethereum mainnet activation around December 3, 2025.
The Fusaka upgrade is designed to reduce transaction costs and enhance network efficiency by streamlining how Ethereum samples and verifies data from layer-2 networks. It also includes multiple improvements aimed at enhancing the overall user experience on Ethereum.
Building on prior innovations, such as the 2024 Dencun upgrade, Fusaka expands the use of blobs, which temporarily store layer-2 network data to significantly lower gas fees. The upgrade introduces PeerDAS, a technology that increases blob space on Ethereum transaction blocks by over 400%, according to Ethereum core developer Marius van der Wijden.
Initially planned for the May Pectra upgrade, PeerDAS was delayed to avoid overloading the update package. Now, Fusaka is set to fully implement PeerDAS, enabling faster, cheaper layer-2 transaction validation at near-zero costs.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin emphasized PeerDAS’s importance for scaling, calling it “the key to layer-2 scaling.” He explained that it allows a live blockchain without requiring any single node to download the full data, highlighting its unprecedented nature and the careful testing by core developers.
Ethereum (ETH) had been trading higher over the past week, but ETH recently dropped nearly 5% to $3,947, now showing a negative trend over the past seven days. Prediction market users on Myriad remain optimistic, suggesting a 68% chance that ETH could rise to $4,500 before falling to $3,100, though this probability has fallen 15% in the last 24 hours amid the recent price decline.
The Fusaka upgrade marks a major milestone for Ethereum, reinforcing its layer-2 scaling capabilities, lowering transaction fees, and improving efficiency for users and developers alike. With mainnet deployment expected in early December, Ethereum’s network is poised to further enhance its role as a leading blockchain platform for scalable decentralized applications.
