The government of Malta is establishing a new task force to advise on the implementation of the country's national blockchain strategy. It will review proposals and make recommendations to develop the blockchain technology.
The task force is calling for proposals from seven financial services advisory companies, in order to aid in the growth of the digital economy in Malta.
The official release stated: “The Government is ambitiously looking into the setting up of a new regulatory function with the primary objective of harnessing the technology with a legal operational framework, serving as a bold initiative leading to the formation of an ideal ecosystem for those willing to invest in blockchain technology".
This highlights Malta’s continuous efforts to advance domestic blockchain technology. For example, Malta’s stock exchange started exploring in December 2017, the usage of blockchain to underlie its trading platform, while Prime Minister Joseph Muscat indicated his support for blockchains and cryptocurrencies.
