Soter Insure has added SC Ventures and SBI Group as strategic investors in the second close of its Galaxy-led Series B, aiming to expand insurance capacity for institutional digital asset participants globally.
Soter Insure, an Abu Dhabi-headquartered specialist insurer for the digital asset economy, has added Standard Chartered's venture arm SC Ventures and Japan's SBI Group as strategic investors in its Series B funding round, as it looks to expand insurance capacity for institutional participants in digital assets.
The investment marks the second close of the Galaxy-led Series B and also includes follow-on investment from Token Bay Capital, an existing investor since Soter's Series A. The new investors join Coinbase Ventures, Franklin Templeton and Brevan Howard Digital, which participated in the first close announced in July 2026.
The company did not disclose the amount raised in either close or its valuation.
Soter Insure said the funding will support efforts to increase its insurance capacity, strengthen its underwriting and technology capabilities, and expand into established and emerging digital asset markets.
The company identified Asia-Pacific, through its Hong Kong presence, alongside Europe and the United States as expansion priorities.
The investment comes as insurance capacity remains a challenge for banks and asset managers seeking to expand their digital asset activities. According to Soter, the absence of specialised coverage makes it difficult for institutions to apply the same risk standards used across traditional asset classes.
Henson Orser, Founder and CEO of Soter Insure, said the participation of SC Ventures and SBI Group brings traditional financial institutions and digital asset investors together behind the development of insurance capacity at institutional scale.
The company's existing investors include Galaxy, Coinbase Ventures, Franklin Templeton and Brevan Howard Digital, alongside Token Bay Capital's continued participation in the round.
For SC Ventures, the investment reflects the role of insurance in supporting the development of institutional digital asset markets.
Herve Francois, Principal of the Digital Assets Fund at SC Ventures, described insurance as a critical but often overlooked component of the digital asset ecosystem. He said the investment reflects the firm's view that Soter is positioned to develop an insurance platform capable of addressing institutional requirements and supporting the industry's global development.
The investment also comes as Standard Chartered expands its digital asset activities. The bank has introduced Bitcoin and Ether spot trading for institutional clients in the UAE, reflecting the growing involvement of traditional financial institutions in the digital asset market.
Yangte Kim, SBI Group's representative in the UAE, said the development of robust insurance solutions would become increasingly important as digital asset adoption expands.
SBI Group's investment is intended to support Soter's growth and contribute to the development of a more resilient digital asset ecosystem, according to Kim.
The participation of both investors adds financial services groups with established digital asset activities to Soter's investor base.
Headquartered in Abu Dhabi and operating out of Bermuda, SoterInsure was incubated by Further Ventures and WebN Group. The company also maintains offices in London, New York and Dubai.
Its insurance products are designed for financial institutions and cover several areas of digital asset-related operational and financial risk, including Directors and Officers (D&O), Professional Indemnity (PI), Crime, Specie, Slashing and Smart Contract Failure.
Soter also offers coverage denominated in both fiat currencies and native digital assets.
The company's focus on specialised digital asset coverage comes as insurance providers in the UAE explore different ways of serving the digital asset economy. In a separate development, Dubai Insurance introduced a crypto wallet for insurance premium payments and claims settlement, bringing cryptocurrency payments into its insurance operations.
Soter's expansion plans include strengthening its presence across Asia-Pacific, Europe and the United States, as institutional demand for specialised insurance products develops.
The latest investment adds to the institutional backing behind Soter's efforts to expand insurance capacity for digital asset businesses, an area that the company identifies as necessary for broader participation by banks and asset managers.
