In a significant step toward modernizing humanitarian giving, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) has launched a service allowing approved charitable associations and institutions in Dubai to accept donations in cryptocurrencies and virtual assets.
The initiative, which reflects Dubai’s commitment to digital transformation and innovation, offers donors new, modern channels to support humanitarian causes while aligning the emirate’s charitable sector with global trends in digital finance.
The new crypto-enabled donation service aligns with Dubai’s broader digital transformation strategy, which aims to integrate cutting-edge financial technologies into public services and position the city as a global hub for innovation. By incorporating virtual assets into the donation ecosystem, the initiative expands giving options for both local and international donors and enhances the efficiency of charitable fundraising. iacad.gov.ae
According to IACAD, the service is built on a regulatory framework designed to:
Protect donor funds
Enhance transparency

These policies are part of a general framework that governs fundraising activities involving virtual assets, intended to support safe and responsible adoption within the charitable sector.
To ensure a smooth transition, IACAD has organized a series of introductory workshops for charitable organizations. These sessions explain the required operational procedures and compliance obligations for adopting the new donation channels.
Mohammed Musbeh Dhaahi, Executive Director of the Charitable Work Sector at IACAD, highlighted that the move is part of the Department’s commitment to advancing the charitable ecosystem in Dubai. He emphasized that the service would facilitate access to approved donation channels for a broader base of donors while maintaining high levels of governance and transparency.
Dhaahi also encouraged charitable organizations across the emirate to apply for preliminary authorization to offer crypto and virtual-asset donation services. This step is designed to ensure that all such activities are conducted in a secure, regulated environment in line with Dubai’s future-oriented goals.
The introduction of cryptocurrency donation options marks a broader shift in how philanthropy can operate in the digital age. As digital assets become more mainstream, providing regulated pathways for their use in charitable contexts not only increases donor choice but also positions Dubai as a leader in innovation-driven humanitarian work.
By bridging traditional charity with next-generation finance, IACAD’s initiative could unlock new funding streams, particularly from tech-savvy donors and international crypto communities — a trend already seen in other regions where digital asset giving has gained traction.
