X has launched a new US Cashtag Partner Program that connects discussions about stocks, ETFs and cryptocurrencies on the social platform with participating trading platforms.
The program brings five financial companies into the initial rollout: Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo.
Under the new system, supported cashtags can display a “Trade” option alongside market information. Users who select the feature are directed to a participating brokerage, where they can complete the transaction subject to that platform’s account requirements, identity checks, asset availability and other conditions.
X itself is not executing the trades through the program, according to the details provided in its announcement. Instead, the platform is creating a direct route from financial content and market data to external trading services.
Cashtags have long been used on X to organize conversations around financial assets. Users can place a dollar sign before a ticker — such as $BTC for Bitcoin or $COIN for Coinbase shares — to follow discussions and market information associated with an asset.
The new program adds a transactional layer to that existing feature.
When users open a supported cashtag, they can access information about the underlying stock, ETF or cryptocurrency and, where available, select a trading partner to continue on its platform.
The model shortens the path between discovering an asset through social-media conversations and reaching a trading interface, without requiring X to operate the brokerage function itself.
The availability of specific assets will vary between providers because each platform determines its own product offerings, customer eligibility and geographic restrictions.
The latest development builds on X's earlier expansion of its financial-data tools.
The company previously introduced smart cashtags for users in the US and Canada, adding live price charts, asset-specific posts and support for cryptocurrency contract addresses.
The feature was designed to make it easier for users to identify the correct asset when multiple tokens or securities share similar names or ticker symbols. Selecting a smart cashtag opens a dedicated page containing market information and related conversations.
Canadian users had already been given access to a trading link through Wealthsimple, creating an early version of the model that X has now expanded to the US with five participating platforms.
The US program keeps execution outside X. Users are redirected to the brokerage they select, where the actual transaction takes place.
The inclusion of Coinbase, Gemini and Kraken gives cryptocurrency users access to three major crypto-focused platforms through the new cashtag system.
Users must still have an eligible account with their selected provider, while each exchange determines which cryptocurrencies and services are available to individual customers.
Kraken's participation also comes amid a broader expansion beyond its traditional crypto offering. The exchange has added thousands of US stocks for eligible European Economic Area customers, alongside tokenized xStocks and hundreds of crypto assets.
Earlier this year, Kraken-backed xStocks also expanded onchain trading for tokenized equities across Ethereum and Solana. The developments reflect a broader convergence between traditional securities and digital-asset infrastructure.
Coinbase has similarly expanded into stocks and ETFs in the US, allowing eligible customers to access traditional securities alongside cryptocurrency products.
The Cashtag Partner Program gives these platforms another distribution channel, placing their services directly alongside the financial conversations taking place on X.
The Cashtag initiative also fits into X's wider ambition to turn the platform into a broader financial and payments ecosystem.
X has been developing X Money, a separate financial service designed to support functions including peer-to-peer transfers, bill payments and other financial products.
The company has rolled out features including peer-to-peer transfers, direct deposits, a debit card and yields on eligible balances. These services operate separately from the Cashtag Partner Program.
The distinction is important: X Money is designed around payments and financial services within the X ecosystem, while the Cashtag program sends users to outside brokerages when they want to trade an asset.
X has also obtained money-transmitter licences in more than 40 US states and Washington, D.C., and registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network as part of its preparations for payment services. The company has partnered with Visa on transfers between bank accounts and X Money wallets.
The Cashtag program gives X a new way to connect market discovery, financial information and trading access within a single user journey.
For crypto users in particular, the integration places exchanges directly alongside discussions about Bitcoin and other digital assets, reducing the number of steps between seeing an asset mentioned on the platform and reaching a trading venue.
The program nevertheless leaves important parts of the transaction outside X. Brokerage onboarding, identity verification, asset availability and trading conditions remain controlled by the participating financial platforms.
X has not disclosed when additional financial firms could join the program or whether the initiative will expand beyond the US.
