President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE has finally declared the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC).
Tasked with formulating and executing policies and strategies surrounding research, infrastructure, and investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology, the AIATC aims to transform Abu Dhabi into a technological leader.
This strategic initiative aligns with the emirate's goal of positioning itself as a global hub for investments, partnerships, and talent in the AI sector.
The AIATC, under the chairmanship of Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan and with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Vice Chairman, will collaborate with local and global partners to develop plans and research programs.
These efforts seek to elevate Abu Dhabi's standing in the realms of AI and advanced technology, contributing significantly to the city's post-hydrocarbon economy development and prosperity.
The announcement follows a broader trend in the UAE's commitment to AI advancement. In fact, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, inaugurated the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) in June 2023.
The DCAI is positioned to support government entities in deploying cutting-edge technologies across key sectors, fostering rapid technological development for societal benefit. Moreover, the center aims to launch numerous pilot projects, enhance government services, boost employee productivity, and provide support to over 20 local and global advanced technology startups.
The UAE's proactive embrace of AI aligns with global trends, as the generative AI sector is projected to surge from $10 billion in 2022 to an impressive $110.8 billion by 2030, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate of 34.3 percent.
This strategic investment positions the UAE at the forefront of technological innovation, signaling a bold commitment to shaping the future economy through AI and advanced technology.
