UAE Ministry of Community Development launches Blockchain Payment Gateway

During the Emirati-Kuwaiti joint productive families’ exhibition in Dubai Mall, under the auspices of The UAE Ministry of Community Development, The Ministry of Community Development in the presence of Her Excellency Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development and His Excellency Saad Ibrahim Al Kharaz, Minister of Social Affairs in Kuwait launched the first Blockchain payment gateway in partnership with Dubai Blockchain Center.

In a phone interview with UNLOCK Dr. Marwan Alzarouni, CEO of Dubai Blockchain Center explained, “We in collaboration with our partners developed a point of sale solution that accepts cryptocurrency and payments to purchase traditional artistic and handmade products created by Productive families in the UAE. The products on sale and which can be purchased using cryptocurrencies include traditional and innovative products such as: publications, children’s clothes, jalabias, abayas, perfumes, dukhoon, decorative pots, Emirati spices, honey, natural oils and desserts, innovative products all made in an innovative way that blend between the past and the present.” He added, while payments can be made in crypto the families who produced these products will receive payment in UAE Dirhams.”

This is the first time in the UAE that a payment gateway accepts cryptocurrencies. It is a proud moment for the Ministry of Community Development as the first government department to use a blockchain payment gateway. We are proud as Dubai Blockchain Center to support our government in implementing such a technology along with our partners.”
