UAE Holds Inter University Blockchain Challenge

Winners to be announced on May 1st at Heriot Watt University Campus Dubai

Heriot Watt University, Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority and NEM.io blockchain platform organized the first UAE inter University Blockchain challenge. The winners of the challenge will be revealed on May 1st at Heriot Watt Dubai Campus.

The Inter University Blockchain challenge is the first content to be held among UAE universities. It looks for the most promising blockchain solutions from final year and post graduate university students in the UAE.

We are pleased to invite you and your students to the awarding ceremony of the First UAE University. Student were tasked to create solutions and solve real life problems utilizing the NEM Blockchain in areas such as Government, Academia, Health Care, Land & Transportation, Banking & Finance, Internet of Things, or a Topic of their own choice.

The competition saw more than 100 students from 20 universities participating of which 20 teams from 9 universities in the UAE were shortlisted. During the award ceremony on May 1st the 10 best projects will be presented and winners will be announced.

The top three teams will receive prizes worth up to 109,000 AED. First place team will  AED 55,000 (AED 18,000 – University, AED 37,000 – Students), second place team will receive  AED 36,000 (AED 10,000 – University, AED 26,000 – Students) and 3rd place  will receive AED 18,000 (AED 7,000 – University, AED 11,000 – Students)

During the award ceremony   Dr. Jelena Janjusevic, Assistant Professor, Dubai, HWU, Dr. Paul Hopkinson, Associate Head of School of Social Sciences, Dubai, HWU as well as Mr. Haidar Ali, Senior Vice President, People Happiness & Innovation, Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority and  Ms. Donabelle Rinon, NEM Middle East Leaderwill be speaking about the challenge.

Lara Abdul Malak

Lara has been a journalist and writer in the technology field since her graduation from AUB majoring in political science. She has had career in corporation communications in the telecom sector and was part of the launch of first 3G network in the GCC and MENA region. Since her return to journalism she has been focused with passion on blockchain, tokenization, crypto focusing on the GCC and MENA region. Lara worked with Unlock Blockchain until 2022.
