Smart Dubai signs agreement with ‘Business Sweden’

Smart Dubai has signed an agreement with Swedish trade and investment board, Business Sweden, at its headquarters in Dubai Design District, d3.

The agreement seeks to encourage cooperation and exchange of expertise between the two sides with regards to advanced technologies, such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, AI, and the Internet of things, IoT. It also fosters cooperation in data-related fields and the demand economy, as well as the sharing economy and Smart Dubai’s government services.

Director-General of Smart Dubai Office, Dr. Aisha bint Butti bin Bishr, signed the accord on behalf of Smart Dubai, while Cherif Sayed, Vice President for the Middle East and Africa at Business Sweden, represented the Swedish trade and investment board. The signing ceremony was attended by Mikael Damberg, Sweden’s Minister for Enterprise and Innovation.

“Smart Dubai is committed to strengthening cooperation with various stakeholders in the development of advanced technologies that support Dubai’s smart-city transformation. We are equally devoted to adhering to international best practice, which allows us to improve the quality of life in Dubai and offer top-notch services to the emirate’s residents and visitors, in line with the objectives of the UAE Centennial 2071 Plan. This, in turn, supports our mission to turn Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world.

“This partnership with Business Sweden shows our ongoing commitment in the fields of data management, governance and advanced technologies,” she added.

Commenting on the signing, Sayed said, “As Business Sweden’s purpose is to help Swedish companies grow global sales, we are delighted to have formalised a partnership with the Smart Dubai Office to create a platform for Swedish businesses within the smart city segment. Through this partnership, we look forward to cooperating closely with the Smart Dubai Office in a number of areas to support the digitalisation of Dubai. As Dubai is gearing up to host World Expo 2020 and with the publication of the UAE Centennial 2071 Plan, we see a number of exciting opportunities for Business Sweden to leverage Swedish expertise and achieve their ambitious goals”

Both parties pledge to exchange experiences and expertise in the data field, including those related to designing and using technology solutions to source, collect, analyse and store data. The two sides will also collaborate on the Smart Dubai government services including Dubai Now, Dubai ID, and the Happiness Meter in addition to sharing knowledge through joint educational workshops and training courses.
