SAP announces its Blockchain initiative for Internet of Things

SAP SE, enterprise software provider, announced its new blokchain initiative that will focus on tackling the “internet of things.”

SAP plans to partner with a number of information technology firms and consultancies such as NetApp Inc., Cap Gemini S.A., HCL Technologies Ltd. and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd., to develop new systems.

As part of the Leonardo digital innovation suite,  SAP’s Blockchain integrates various software capabilities from machine learning, big data, internet of things, analytics and blockchain on the SAP Cloud Platform.

Furthermore, the ultimate aim would be to integrate SAP’s blockchain as a service platform with various products pertaining to the internet of things, manufacturing and digital supply chain.

SAP also announced the launch of its Leonardo Blockchain Early Access program, that allows partners and customers to try out its products that were enhanced with blokchain functionality. As a result, SAP Leonardo Blockchain capabilities enable companies and their business partners to have access to common data in the absence of central control.

Tanja Rueckert, President of IoT and Digital Supply Chain at SAP stated: “Blockchain is a transformative technology that can simplify multiparty transactions and open new possibilities for digital innovation in many industries. Our early access customers and partners can join SAP to get a first-mover advantage innovating and scaling blockchain as a core part of their Internet of Things strategies.”
