Telegram has announced a new update allowing users to purchase in-platform advertisements using Toncoin.
This latest feature forms part of the messaging app's ongoing efforts to monetize its user base, with a significant portion of advertising revenue now set to flow directly to channel owners.
The essence of the update lies in empowering users to promote their channels with ease, requiring only a modest investment in Toncoin. With this new functionality, users gain full control over where their TON-powered advertisements appear, ensuring targeted exposure to their desired audience.
Moreover, channel owners stand to benefit significantly from this development. Telegram has pledged that channel owners can withdraw their earnings without incurring any fees. The withdrawal service is slated to become available in the coming weeks on Telegram's Fragment exchange, promising seamless access to earned rewards.
Telegram's rationale behind choosing the TON Blockchain for this initiative is clear. Highlighting its low fees and rapid transaction speeds, Telegram lauds TON for its ability to process a remarkable 100,000 transactions per second, as demonstrated in a test last November.
The anticipation for this update has been palpable, with Telegram CEO Pavel Durov teasing the announcement on his personal channel a month prior. Durov noted that while Telegram channels collectively amass over 1 trillion monthly views, only a fraction have been monetized through advertising thus far.
Durov expressed optimism regarding the potential impact of this update, envisioning a symbiotic relationship where content creators can either monetize their Toncoins or reinvest them to further enhance their channels.
The market response to this announcement has been swift, with the price of Toncoin witnessing a 2.32% increase in the last 24 hours, reaching $5.24.
In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, Telegram's foray into in-platform advertising with Toncoin marks a major step forward, offering users newfound avenues for monetization and channel growth.
