Elon Musk's AI venture, xAI, has introduced "Grok," an AI chatbot designed to outshine OpenAI's ChatGPT in various academic assessments.
The driving force behind Grok is to provide AI tools that can empower research and innovation, a mission Musk and the xAI team articulated in a recent announcement on the X platform.
What sets Grok apart is its "unique and fundamental advantage": access to real-time knowledge via the X platform.
Musk and the xAI team claim that Grok can handle unconventional or "spicy" questions and add a touch of humor to its responses. They advise users not to engage with Grok if they dislike humor or a bit of rebelliousness in their AI interactions.
Powering Grok is the Grok-1 engine, which underwent several academic assessments in mathematics and coding. According to xAI's shared data, Grok-1 outperformed ChatGPT-3.5 in all the tests, demonstrating its proficiency in these domains. However, it didn't surpass OpenAI's most advanced model, GPT-4, in any of the assessments.
Musk and xAI noted that the AI community's progress, particularly xAI's efficiency in training large language models (LLMs), is evident in Grok's performance.
They also announced that Grok will be available to users through X Premium Plus at a subscription fee of $16 per month, although initially, access will be limited to users in the United States.
It's important to note that Grok is still in its early beta stage, and xAI plans to roll out improvements and additional safety measures over time. The team acknowledges the responsibility of ensuring AI remains a force for good and is committed to safeguarding against any malicious use.
The launch of Grok comes eight months after Elon Musk founded xAI in March, and it reflects the company's dedication to pushing the boundaries of AI technology and its potential to contribute scientific and economic value to society.
